Conference Scheduled in Orange City, IA

September 8, 2014

Orange City flier w. location-page-0In cooperation with the L.E.A.P. (Love, Education, Acceptance, Pride) group in Orange City, Iowa*, Room for All announces a one-day conference on Saturday, November 1, 2014 in Orange City titled “Building an Inclusive Community:  Scripture, Science, Story.”

RfA trainers will lead a module on strategic storytelling, and two nationally-known guest speakers will address the areas of social science research and Scripture engagement. Dr. David Myers, Hope College psychology professor and author, and Matthew Vines, author of “God and the Gay Christian” and founder of The Reformation Project, have both agreed to participate, along with Northwestern College alumna and singer-songwriter, Deb Tiemens.  Former Northwestern College chaplain Rev. Doug Shepler will lead closing worship.

The free event will take place at the Blue Mountain Emporium from 9:30 AM – 5 PM,  and will include lunch, fellowship and worship.  The day will continue informally with a storytelling and musical evening at The Old Factory coffeehouse. For questions, and to register, email RDMutch@roomforall.com by October 20th.

*L.E.A.P. is an LGBT & ally support group that is not an approved student organization at Northwestern College.  Although Northwestern College has chosen not to host this event on campus, we are grateful for all the local support that is making this important conversation possible.
