Room for Me

In Room for All, we believe that the Gospel compels us to welcome and affirm Christ-followers of all sexual identities and gender expressions.

So we decided to invite the reflections of some LGBTQ Christians in Reformed Church settings across the country. The participants were asked to respond to four questions.

1. What’s it like being you?
2. How is the Gospel of Jesus Christ “good news” to you?
3. What’s something you wish the RCA understood about you?
4. Fill in the blank: I am __________.

The short film “Room for Me?” is the result of these 26 interviews.

Meet the Producer

Jeremy Bork

Jeremy Bork is a 2013 graduate of Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. He served in a one-year ministry internship at First Reformed Church in Schenectady NY, and began studies at Western Theological Seminary in the fall of 2014.

During his senior year at Northwestern, Jeremy created a short video consisting of students responding to questions about same-sex relationships and inclusion in the church. After seeing the video online, Room for All’s Director, Marilyn Paarlberg, interviewed him for the RfA newsletter. They were able to meet at the RCA 2013 General Synod, where they discussed the possibility of having Jeremy create a video for Room for All. Through continued conversations, prayers and divine interference, “Room for Me?” was birthed, molded, and brought to completion.

Jeremy feels beyond blessed when he reflects on how special this journey has been for him. Having been silenced and mistreated by multiple Christian communities, he feels compelled to give a voice to the ignored and to challenge the church to ask what it really means to love one’s neighbor as oneself. This film is just one way he is trying to live out that vision.
